GoldSim Video Library

Below you'll find a libary of short Macromedia Flash videos describing various GoldSim elements and modeling concepts. We continuously add videos to this library, so bookmark this page and check often for new videos.

Learning Basic GoldSim Elements

Container

Once your model becomes crowded with elements, you may want to organize your model using Containers. This video provides an introduction to the use of Containers.  3:48

4. Stochastic

 Inputs

Explains the different sampling options for Stochastic elements. The video also shows how the Result elements can be used with Stochastic models. 5:40

What does the Time Series element do and when do we want to use it? This video is a quick over view of the Time Series element. 3:02

This video explains the basic configuration of the Time Series element, including the differences among four representations.   6:20

If a Time Series Data Table is too large to type in by hand, importing data directly from excel spreadsheets becomes useful.   This video shows you how.  3:43

This video shows you how to time-shift the data so that you can use historical data in predictive models. 4:27

 Stocks

Demonstrates the basic setup of the integrator element by solving a classic calculus problem. Also includes the usage of the interrupt element. 4:50

This video provides a basic introduction to the Reservoir element.   5:00

Functions

Demonstrates how the Extrema element can be used to determine the minimum or maximum values of an output during a simulation.  4:01

Explains how a Selector can be used to represent nested if/then statements in your models.  5:29

Describes how the Splitter element can be used to divide flows.  6:10

Demonstrates another way of dividing flows using the Allocator element. 4:02

(continues from the previous video). This video shows you an option of the Allocator element to change priorities over time. 3:00

This video introduces how to add conditional operators into your model. 3:30

After reviewing basics of logical elements, we construct a simple decesion tree as an example. This illustrates the use of stochastic inputs in Yes or No decison making. 4:52

Events

This video shows an example of how a Random Choice element can be used to select outcomes according to specified probabilities.  3:54

This video shows two different ways to use the Discrete Change Element. You can induce instantaneous changes in stock elements by adding specified values or replacing the current value of stock elements.  5:03

This video shows how processes can be triggered on or off during a simulation using the versatile status element; 10:00

The event triggering dialog is common to many GoldSim elements. This video discusses basic options for triggering events; 8:02

This video discusses advanced options for the event triggering dialog common to many GoldSim elements 6:30

Delays

This video shows a number of applications of information delays, including delays in transmission of information, calculation of moving averages, and delays with dispersion.  8:20

The Material Delay element has a complex property dialog, but can be quite useful in your modeling.   This element describes the different inputs, units and outputs of the Material Delay element using a simple example. 4:52

(Continues from the previous video). This video explains the initial outflow and dispersion options of the Material Delay element. 3:34

Results

This video covers graphing options in time history result elements.  It also discusses probability histories and screening realizations. 8:30

(Continues from the previous video). This video explains options for viewing tables of results in time history result elements. 3:34

(Continues from the previous video). This video discusses exporting from GoldSim to spreadsheets or text files via time history result elements. 10:20

Learning Basic Concepts

This quick tour is an introduction to GoldSim modeling and illustrates how GoldSim could be used to carry out a simple dynamic simulation. The demonstration walks through the sequence of steps required to create the various elements, link them together and view the results. 7:12

(Continue from the previous video) Part II of the quick tour demonstrates how to set up and view the results of a simple stochastic model by modifying the model created in Part I. 6:22

This video explains the basics of one of the most important features of GoldSim, units and dimensions. We’ll first see the internal conversions carried out in GoldSim elements and warning for unit inconsistency. This video also demonstrates the activation of units and unit casting.  7:18
